Meet Julie
Calm Dogs. Confident Owners. Stronger Connections.
Hello, I'm Julie, the founder of Company of Canines.
I've called Devonport home for over 20 years and feel incredibly lucky to live and work in one of Auckland's most dog-friendly communities. I share my home with my partner, two sons and my rescue dog, Riley, who reminds me every day that every dog has their own story, their own challenges, and their own way of learning.
My passion is helping dogs and their people enjoy life together.

More Than Dog Training
I believe great training is about so much more than teaching cues or solving behaviour problems.
I take a holistic, integrative approach, recognising that many factors, including learning history, emotions, environment, health and the individual dog in front of us influence behaviour. Every dog is unique, and every family has different goals, so no two training plans are ever the same.
I know that living with a dog who is struggling can feel overwhelming at times. My role is to provide clear guidance, practical strategies and ongoing support, so you feel confident every step of the way.

A Commitment to Learning
One of the things I love most about this profession is that there's always more to learn.
I'm committed to ongoing professional development and regularly study with respected trainers and behaviour professionals from New Zealand and around the world, ensuring my clients benefit from the latest evidence-based knowledge and best practice.
- Karen Pryor Academy – Advanced Professional Dog Trainer
- Unitec – New Zealand Certificate in Canine Behaviour and Training (NZQA)
- Think Dog Mentorship Program
- Professional Applied Behaviour Training (All Sorts Dog Training)
- Senior Trainer, Howlistic Help (2023–2026)
I also continue my education through organisations and educators including the School of Canine Science, Grisha Stewart, Roz Pooley (The Mutty Professor) and Absolute Dogs, and I'm a proud member of APDT New Zealand.

Life Beyond Work
When I'm not working with clients, you'll usually find me out walking with Riley, hiking, practising yoga, exploring nature, enjoying the beautiful beaches around Devonport, or spending time with family and friends.
I believe life is richer when dogs are part of our everyday adventures, and there's nothing more rewarding than helping owners experience the confidence and joy that comes from sharing life with a calm, connected companion.
